The first step in Injection Molded Plastics is to create the mould. Most moulds are made of metal, typically aluminium or steel, and are precision machined to match the features of the product they will produce. The material for the part is fed into a heated barrel and mixed using a helical shaped screw after the mould has been created by the mould maker. The material in the barrel is melted by heating bands, and the molten metal or molten plastic material is then fed into the mould cavity, where it cools and hardens to match the shape of the mould. Cooling lines that circulate water or oil from an external temperature controller can help to shorten the cooling time.
